about me

and my love affair with the natural

My belief that the most powerful images aren’t staged or posed - they’re authentic moments, simply noticed.

I’m Holly, the storyteller behind Roots and Tales. I’ve had a camera in my hands for over twenty years, but what matters most isn’t how long, it’s how I’ve learned to see.

The Story

The Shift

How I see now

It began with a family portrait, and a feeling I couldn’t yet name. Being seen, understood, and remembered. Years later, photographing at sea, I captured thousands of moments but stopped noticing them. Everything became faster, more performative, less real. Until I burnt out.

Coming home gave me space. To slow down, to reconnect and to start noticing again. When I picked up my camera, something had changed. No scripts, no staged poses, just people doing what they love.

What I’ve fallen in love with isn’t just photography. It’s noticing. The light, the details, the in-between moments. Because the story lives there, and people don’t connect with perfect. They connect with something real.

What this means for you

You don't need to perform

Or have it all figured out. Just space to show up as you are. Because the most powerful images aren’t staged or posed, they’re authentic moments, simply noticed.

A little about me

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me outdoors. Walking with my dogs, chasing light, noticing the small things. It’s also where Letterbox Photo Club began.

If this feels like your kind of space, I'd love to hear from you.

Kind words

"Holly’s process is unique - she doesn’t just turn up with a camera, she invites you to think deeply about your project and the story you want your images to tell."
